Merry Christmas

24 Dec

TBW has been overly remiss with posting entries here but never to forget to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!  Hope we remember that December 25 is the birthday of Papa Jesus.  The entire world celebrates His birth with parties, family togetherness, gift giving, forgiveness, merriment, understanding…all stemming from love…the reason why He was born.

May there be more and continuous juicy and interesting posts/photos that will find their way here in 2013.

In the meantime……………………………..

TV 5 or Channel 5, owned by Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) recently launched a talent search which airs every evening except Sundays from 8:30 pm onwards. This talent search which has 16…oops down to 13 now…aspiring women and men is called Artista Academy or AA for short.  (Finally, a more positive AA acronym…hahaha)

Each weeknight, these aspirants practice singing, with no less than Louie Ocampo, dancing and acting for a live exam on Saturday evening.  Just like in school!  Hence, AA =)  Do I watch the show?  Yes, TBW does now!  Mainly for AA’s top student to date, Sophie Albert.  She is a cut above the rest for she has the 5 B’s — beauty, brains, breeding, bearing and bucks!  And to top it all… she has C for class and the capital T — for TALENT!  In fact, she has been getting top scores from AA’s teacher/judges composed of show business royalty Lorna Tolentino and Gelli de Belen plus Director Mac Alejandre and “Principal” Wilma Galvante.

Aside from getting good scores, these aspirants need text votes to stay on top. TBW’s been sending AA Sophie to 5656 ( 1 peso only per text) on a regular basis because she deserves to win!!!   Sophie’s got the 5B’s and capital C and T!

Sophie doing her dance exam. Super pasado again!

Her rendition of a Lady Gaga song which got her high scores from all judges! Way to go, Sophie!

Sophie has gone through her acting, dancing and singing exams and passed with flying colors, gaining top scores from the judges.  Truth be told, Sophie was given due recognition yesterday for getting the top score for acting.  You certainly have my vote!

Sophie Albert

Now all that is needed is to send more of those text votes.  Her fans have come up with a 1 million mark for her facebook page as well.

Text AA Sophie to 5656. Like Sophie Albert on facebook!

Sophie’s fans have a wide demographic.  From Aparri to Jolo.  From A – Z.  Men, women, children, LGBT. Young, middle- age and old. All in!  Here are some of her cute fans!

L.A. LIVE

27 Apr

L.A. Live is an entertainment complex in Los Angeles which was built at an approximate cost of US$ 2.5 billion.  The entire complex which is right across Staples Center houses hotels like Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott, Nokia Theater, Grammy Museum, Lucky Strike which is supposedly owned by Britney Spears & other celebrities, clubs, bars and restaurants.  The name is very appropriate as the place gets really lively especially at night and when a Lakers or Clippers game is scheduled at the nearby Staples Center.

Day shot of some parts of L.A. Live

One of the best restaurants we’ve been to is Yard House located within the L.A. Live complex.  It’s sports bar meets casual dining meets date place ambience.  Flat screens showing sports events are all over, dining and cocktail tables and bar seating available, mood lighting, gracious service and yes…very good food!

Steak was grilled to perfection and to our liking. Other entrees were remarkably good. Presentation was note worthy. We dined here twice but TBW had no camera the 2nd time to capture the spicy Mahi tuna roll which was actually done in layers, nacho platter which resembled a hill and more.

An interesting restaurant in L.A. Live is Trader Vic’s (any relation to Joe? Ü).  Polynesian, Hawaiian in theme, it’s menu carries standard favorites with a South Pacific twist.  Owners are wise though not to mess with  the all-time favorite burger.

L-R: Shrimp drizzled with a spicy lime coconut dressing; "don't mess with me burger" which was grilled just right, maintaining the patty's juiciness and tenderness; fish and chips with cilantro & carrot strings.

For sports fanatics, ESPN Zone is the place to be.  Right beside L.A. Live’s  open-air activity area and with a direct view of Staples Center, this restaurant is a popular choice for many.  Line gets pretty long especially when a Lakers game is on.

Place your orders then walk a few steps and get into the frenzy of things in the activity area.  Such as?  O…meet up with basketball stars…

Then eat up and proceed to Staples to watch the warm-up and game.

L.A. Live is in West Olympic Blvd. corner South Figueroa st.

NEVER TOO LATE TO POST

18 Dec

It’s been close to three months since TBW’s last post.  That’s a looong time for a blog that had a post almost everyday as a standard.  Blame it on the newly acquired responsibility which took my life by storm beginning October this year.  Not only has it taken much of my waking time especially on weekdays, it has encroached on my me time as well—exercise, mani/pedi, salons, posts, family, friends and too many more to mention…including sleep!!!  Mind you, it’s not that bad.  Like I always say and do, look at the brighter side of things.  The glass is half full.  Look for the light at the end of the tunnel.  Blah blah blah.  So what is the brighter side, where is the water and the light to all these?  Simply being involved in a super duper exciting project that is about to unveil itself in x number of months…

Can't say much as this project is still under wraps. However, as soon as it is ready to present itself to the world, you dear readers will certainly get an exclusive account. If there is time to do the post..haha!

Several events have happened over the past 3 months.  Many food adventures experienced, some with photos, many with none.  TBW is no longer a daily camera-trotting creäture, you see.  Only on days when time, space and hands permit are these events and adventures documented.  Nevertheless, those photos taken shall find their way here sooner than soon.  This is the least TBW can do to loyal and continuing readers and followers.  Sincere apologies for the momentary dry spell.

It is never too late to say I’m sorry…..and to post =)

NEXT COURSE PLS…..

ONE RAINY NIGHT

4 Sep

Carlos Celdran’s enthralling and informative tour once again, an interesting glimpse of the nooks and cranny of Intramuros’ old buildings, fabulous paella and salsa monja, and easy, comfortable company.  Worth braving the rains on a weekend night.

The sun does shine even on a rainy night =)
