MY KIND OF CHAPCHAE

24 Mar

Chapchae , japchae or jabchae is one of my ultimate comfort foods and  a favorite Korean dish.  It is made from sweet potato noodles, stir fired in sesame oil, vegetables like carrots, onions, mushrooms, beef or chicken, flavored with soy sauce and sugar and topped with sesame seeds and slivers of egg.

TBW has tried many versions of this dish from restaurants to Korean housewives’ weekend market recipes  to private dinners.  (Mind you, no one is claiming to be a food connoisseur nor an expert on Korean food, with which a food love affair has begun just very recently. ) But there is only one chapchae truly acknowledged by my taste buds as the best!  Bon Chon’s!

Bon Chon's chapchae. A steal at 75 pesos per order!

Bon Chon's chapchae. A steal at 75 pesos per order! Comfort food indeed!

Of course ordering chachae only at Bon Chon is quite unacceptable especially with 2 growing boys around.  An order of wings, drumstick or chops has to be made as well.

Soy garlic wings and chops. A good accompaniment to chapchae =)))

Love it!

FRIED CHICKEN CAN NEVER GO WRONG EVEN AT BON CHON

18 Feb

The first resto we ate at Ayala Triangle Gardens was Bon Chon, the fried chicken franchise from Korea.

Menu board

We ordered the large combination of 12 wings and 6 drumsticks in soy garlic (a sweet salty marinade sauce).

12 pcs Chicken wings

6 pcs Chicken drumsticks

We wanted an appetizer…..

Fried calamari with a spicy dip

The chicken was crunchy and we liked the sauce.  Would be good to have a dip to go with it.  We were only 3 and we finished everything….except the bones =)

TBW has this thing about toilets. They must be clean, complete with basic toiletries and smelling good.  Bon Chon’s toilet had all.  Also like the design of their toilet door.

There are also salads, rice meals and of course, kimchi =) Worth a try!
